Onward to Sardinia
A lovely lunch in Porto Vecchio overlooking the bay with Zig in the distance.
Next day off to Baie do Rotonda… huge brown/purple jellyfish so a cautious snorkel……. As we left Leighton accidentally sliced one with the prop..ugh…
On the way to Levazzi we saw our first flying fish off Zig…. stunning!!! Only 2 knots of wind so a motor, navigating around some treacherous outcrop of rocks which made a lovely snorkelling area.
Al at the helm Leighton’s hurt his back so after sound physio advice (daughter) pain killers ,rest and certain exercises…. he was taking a well-earned break. Al sailed across the dreaded Bonifacio straits between Corsica and Sardinia, Al at the helm 14 knots of wind and we were zipping along at 6 knots… we manoeuvred through dead mans passage in the Maddelana archipelago, phew we draw 1.3 and the depth was 1.3….. very cautious… crystal clear water again…. holding tank essential!!!!
Stayed a few nights at Cala Stagnoli, Al was happily reading her kindle glanced up and saw a dinghy about 300 meters away looking very much like ours…………………**** it is!
A quick up anchor and chase down the Cala and caught up with the escapee, luckily it was Leighton’s knot which undid!
Strong winds forecast so off to Maddelana, a good town with all amenities so a catch up with all the washing and shopping. On Al’s birthday the boat was dressed overall which Al loved. A lovely day with a delicious meal in the evening. We planned to leave next day but still windy so a bike ride to Caprera over the causeway. Went to Cala Garibaldi and enjoyed a lovely swim.
Al wasn’t going to cycle up the huge hill but somehow we did losing ourselves on a track but finding a lovely downhill road back. Wheeeeeeee. Al cooked some scones with a frying pan – quite tasty.
Next day a pleasant 10 mile motor arriving in Santa Theresa Di Gallura – A pretty port very quiet and almost deserted, wandered uphill to the village with a very lively town square.
Motor sailed to Castelsardo, a lovely looking town unfortunately we arrived with a thunderstorm so no walk to the town, but a very handy supermarcato on the quay. Next day 20 mile trip to a nature reserve Isola Asinara where we had a beautiful weird sunset then through the Forrelli Passage quite narrow surrounded by rocks but good leading lines to navigate by. Another beautiful flat sea, passing some stunning dramatic cliffs, round the Dodmans big brother and into Alghero.
Stayed here a week on the town quay and loved it! Delayed again by a gale for our final sail of 2013 down to the winter layup yard in Bosa.
Mid October 30+ degrees so laying up jobs and more swimming…… Do we have to go back?
Last night out.
