2014 Let the season begin
We touched down at Alghero airport on time to a Ryanair fanfare haha. Hire car was a Fiat Panda, happy memories from several hols in Greece where we always seemed to get a panda and the kids always complained about the rear seat – now much improved – off to Bosa where Zigzag has been laidup for the winter, we arrived in darkness and had to find a ladder to climb aboard – no electric connected as expected and very cold so straight to bed.
Zigzag lifted off her keel to repair some damage we suffered travelling through the canals
Next day electric and water sorted but as we’re out of the water no toilet facilities onboard – Mk1 bucket in use at night! No way climbing the ladder in the early hours.. While we had a car we thought we would take some time to visit inland so off to the mountains, had a really close fly past of a Griffin Vulture below us and others soaring above (keep moving was heard to be said) very remote areas and beautiful scenery full of broom in full colour. Another day of boat work, then shopping – we found some much needed supermarcato’s as the one nearest the yard seemed to be going through a major reorganisation for the summer (just as it was in October) shelves mostly empty.
After another full days work preparing Zig we rewarded ourselves with a drive down the coast had a lovely lunch in in a very pretty bay watching a snorkeler (in full wetsuit) gathering sea urchins a delicacy we haven’t yet tried.
We’ve met some very interesting people whilst in the yard including experienced liveaboards Tony & Ann who were going to a concert in Bosa one evening so we tagged along cycling with no lights no worries though as Ann had a white light on her bike and Tony had a red one (well for a while anyway) like a gang of naughty kids out too late… A different evening with lovely singing especially 4 men shoulder to shoulder facing each other very traditional and lovely.
Lovely Bosa
Afternoons now very hot so taken to siestas….
Shez came over for 10 days using up her holidays before taking on a new job and promotion, luckily we had hired another car for her stay as there was no Ryanair fanfare for her having been delayed by several hours and would have missed the last bus to Bosa. We had strict instructions to have launched and have onboard toilet facilities working before her arrival; (the bucket was not an option apparently) which we just managed by launching that morning.
We enjoyed some more sightseeing – visited Bosa’s dominant castle which gave us lovely views of Bosa and it’s cemetery…… looks as though people get stacked up in concrete filing cabinets instead of being underground – Al liked the idea.
Hard working crew resting after winching duties
Al and Shez winched Leighton up the mast to refit the anometer which needed repairing – how’s that for trust in your crew! Sails repaired, Zig all fitted out and ready to go.
Shez’s hols are over, time for her to leave and time for us to leave Bosa before we get too attached.
Ooops too late..
